Scharnov Turn
Overview
The Scharnov Turn is a man overboard manoeuvre, often known as the opposite of the Williamson Turn.
Ideally executed after time has elapsed since a man overboard, it turns a vessel around an returns them to their track further back than the position from which the turn began.
The Scharnov Turn
The Scharnov Turn is most appropriate when some time has elapsed since a man overboard situation, and you need to quickly return to retrace your track to search for the casualty.
Retracing your prior track is ideal when searching for a casualty who is no longer within sight.
