Baltic Moor
Overview
A Baltic Moor is a mooring technique for vessels coming alongside a quay which may not be able to take the full weight of the vessel.
It was originally associated with remote timber berths in the Baltic, where quays were often constructed with timber rather than concrete.
When To Use A Baltic Moor
A Baltic Moor allows a vessel to take weight on its anchor to reduce the load applied directly to a quay.
Originally it was developed for use on berths of timber construction, but it is also useful in conditions where a vessel wishes to maintain position slightly off a quayside.
